AN EVIDENCE-BASED APPROACH

Hypnotherapy

Female Hypnotherapy Patient

In 2011, Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy (QCH) initiated an innovative research project. A team of QCH therapists evaluated clients with anxiety and depression, using the same outcome measures as the NHS for assessing talking therapies. The pilot study, published in the Mental Health Review Journal in 2015, revealed compelling results.

Caring

Out of 118 cases assessing the effectiveness of Cognitive Hypnotherapy for depression and anxiety, 71% of clients reported full recovery after an average of just four sessions. This is in stark contrast to the 42% recovery rate observed with other therapies, such as CBT, using the same measures. To our knowledge, QCH is the only hypnotherapy approach that has been validated through this rigorous method.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy utilises recent insights from Evolutionary Psychology, Positive Psychology, Cognitive Theory, and NLP. By integrating these approaches into a contemporary understanding of hypnosis, and utilising the diverse range of techniques, ideas, and tools I can support you in achieving your goals. I don’t impose labels or rigid protocols; instead, I adopt a flexible approach that respects your way of thinking and experiencing the world. We use your unique experience of your problem and the patterns in your mind that contribute to it to guide you toward the best solution.

I will not ask you to repeatedly revisit memories. We only address past events if we believe we can alter how your mind responds to them in the present and future, based on the theory of reconsolidation. (video)

I do not use generic hypnotic scripts, instead, I craft suggestions tailored specifically to your unconscious mind.

My goal is to empower you to thrive, not just during our sessions but in your everyday life and beyond. We achieve this by helping you develop the belief that you have the power to influence the outcomes of events in your life, rather than being at the mercy of external forces. You possess everything needed to shape your responses to life’s challenges effectively I can help recognise how.

The objective is to create lasting change that minimises the need for ongoing therapy whenever you face difficulties.

In Cognitive Hypnotherapy we believe that:

  • Every behaviour serves a positive purpose, and individuals are doing the best they can with the resources they have at the moment

  • People possess all they need to resolve their issues.
The goal of therapy is to help you develop an internal locus of control, empowering you to manage how you respond to life’s challenges

  • All problems and solutions originate from the mind

  • Trance is a common phenomenon, as opposed to a state you are being put into, present in every problem and can also facilitate the solution

What to expect?

There are several misconceptions about hypnotherapy. Many people believe that during hypnosis, you lose control and become subject to the hypnotist's commands or that you'll be made to perform outrageous acts. Others think hypnosis involves unconsciousness or is akin to sleep. None of these beliefs are true.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is essentially a conversation. You will remain in complete control throughout the session and won't do anything against your will. You may close your eyes, but you'll always be aware of your surroundings and can open them and speak whenever you wish. This therapy aims to help you achieve deep relaxation, fostering a sense of calm and comfort.

It's not an instant solution, but changes often begin after the first session. These small changes may make you feel different, sometimes without you even realising it, and gradually and gently lead to desired transformations.
